Public Fishing Pier in Slidell Finally Open

Posted by | May 18, 2012 .

The Slidell public fishing pier is finally open and ready for use. Parish Spokeswoman Suzanne Parsons Stymiest said “Now, we’re not exactly going to cut a ribbon, We’re going to have the first ceremonial catching of a redfish.”

The pier on East Howze Beach Rd will have an entrance gate, rest rooms, and a concession area with vending machines available.

Fish cleaning tables will be available and a full bait shop is on the way, “You can bring your ice chests out. You can bring soft drinks. And, I think it’s a good idea to bring a comfortable chair,” says Stymiest.

The cost is $3 to fish, $1 for sightseeing and children under 12 is FREE. Make sure you have an up to date Louisiana fishing license because the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries will be in full force checking, along with St Tammany Parish Pier Patrol units during operating hours. The Slidell Fishing Pier will be open from 6am to 8pm during the Summer months and from 7am to 5pm during the Winter months.
